Healthy High Protein Chocolate Mousse Ingredients

This high protein mousse recipe is made with just a handful of simple ingredients you likely already have:

  • Firm Silken Tofu: The base of this mousse provides a silky texture and plant-based protein. I would not suggest going with any other tofu variation as silken will give you the best texture!
  • Ora So Lean & So Clean Vegan Vanilla Protein Powder: Adds a creamy vanilla undertone while delivering a major protein boost. If you don’t have this protein powder click here or substitute with any vanilla protein you have available.
  • Raw Unsweetened Cacao Powder: For that rich, chocolatey flavor without added sugar.
  • Plain Unsweetened Soy Milk: Keeps the mousse smooth and dairy-free. You can use any type of plant based milk you have on hand.
  • Maple Syrup: Optional, for a touch of natural sweetness that helps balance all the flavors.

How to Make Healthy High Protein Chocolate Mousse

Making this chocolate mousse recipe couldn’t be easier:

Blend the Ingredients

Add the silken tofu, protein powder, cacao powder, soy milk, maple syrup, and salt to a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Adjust sweetness as needed.

Portion, Chill & Serve

Divide the mousse between two jars or bowls. Top with dairy-free yogurt and cacao nibs. Let the mousse set in the fridge for at least an hour, or preferably overnight. Serve cold and enjoy!

Ways to Customize Your High Protein Chocolate Mousse

You can customize this high protein chocolate mousse in many ways as it’s super easy to make and a great base for whatever toppings you enjoy! For a double chocolate twist, swap the vanilla protein powder for chocolate protein powder to intensify the richness. Looking for a nutty flavor? Swirl in a tablespoon of your favorite nut butter for a creamy, savory balance. Fresh fruit like berries, banana slices, or pomegranate arils adds a bright, fruity contrast to the mousse. For a bit of texture, mix in sugar-free chocolate chips to create little pockets of chocolatey crunch in every bite.

What to Serve with High Protein Chocolate Mousse

This protein-packed mousse shines when paired with the right toppings and sides. Fresh fruit, a dollop of dairy-free whipped cream or something with a little crunch like this grain free granola. The options are endless and the best part about serving this chocolate mousse is you can totally enjoy it all on its own!

  1. Can’t wait to make this mousse! I’m curious what brand and type of yogurt you like to use as a topping? Thanks!

  2. Hi, you are one of my favorite contributors & I love all of your recipes.
Can I use firm tofu for the High Protein Chocolate Mousse?

    1. Hey Pat, Thank you so much for your kind words! I would suggest against firm tofu because you likely won’t get the texture smooth enough to be a mousse. Flavor wise, it won’t make a difference but texture will certainly be off.

  3. Hi, Can you please tell me how many Tablespoons or Cups 60grams of protein powder would be? Can less than that amount be used? Thanks!

    1. Hey Joanne, its around 5 or 6 tablespoons. The back of your protein powder should tell you how much a scoop is in grams and thats a great indicator! I hope you enjoy this recipe 🙂

    1. Hi Alana, unfortunately I do not test my recipes in metrics so I cannot provide them to you accurately. There are many calculators online that you could utilize however you may need to tweak the measurements slightly. Thank you!

  4. 5 stars
I used firm tofu instead of silken and it worked beautifully. After it set in the fridge the texture was divine. And it was even better the second day. My kids approved of it as well. I’m thinking of trying to make a “vanilla” version next. Thanks for the delicious and simple recipe.

    1. Hey Erin, Thanks so much for the raving review! i am so happy that all turned out beautifully 🙂 Glad the kids love it too – they will never know it’s healthy heheh!! Appreciate the rating and review

  5. Can’t wait to try this! Mori-nu has changed their tofu from 12 oz to 10.9 oz (shrinkflation at its finest). Do you think that will mess up the ratio too much? I’m so annoyed with them…I have so many recipes I’ve been using for years that call for the 12 oz container that they no longer make.

  6. Hi! Excited to try this. Is silken tofu the same as firm silken? Brand you recommend? Also is all cacao powder raw?

    1. Hey JB, there are different varieties of silk and tofu, but you can use any of them for this recipe, firm silken, soft silken, any will do! I like Mori Nu. Also, not all cacao powder is raw, but it’s my favorite variety because it has the highest nutrient density!
