Fall Fruits in Season Now!

If you didn’t know fall has its own array of delicious fruits, you’re in for a treat! It’s a layered fruit salad, but make it all about fall.

If you’ve been around here for a minute, you know I love a layered salad moment. There’s something about stacking beautiful ingredients in a glass canister that makes even the simplest recipe feel like it deserves a spot in the middle of the table. And this fall fruit salad might be one of the prettiest versions yet!

We’re taking all the drama and ease of the viral layered fruit salad and giving it a cozy autumn twist with pomegranate juice, orange juice, lime, cinnamon, pomegranate arils, red grapes, cantaloupe, peaches, Granny Smith apples, plums, and blackberries. It’s juicy, colorful, sweet, a little tart, so beautiful and easy as can be.

The best part?

Put the dressing in the bottom of the canister first, then layer the fruit on top. Once you’re ready to serve, flip the whole thing into a bowl; the dressing cascades through the fruit, and it’s pretty much ready to serve!

You can serve this baby anytime you want! It’s perfect for making ahead, so think fall gatherings, tailgates, brunches, holiday tables, or anytime you need something fresh and colorful to balance out all the cozy, heavier dishes of the season.

Fall Fruit Salad Ingredients

Every ingredient in this autumn fruit salad recipe brings color, texture, sweetness, tartness, or that little fall feeling. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Pomegranate Juice: This is the dressing’s base and gives the salad a deep, jewel-toned color and rich flavor. It’s tart, slightly sweet, and perfect for fall.
  • Orange Juice: Adds natural sweetness and citrusy brightness that balances the pomegranate juice and keeps the dressing fresh.
  • Lime Juice: Essential acidity that keeps the fruit tasting bright instead of overly sweet. It also helps prevent the apples from browning too quickly.
  • Cinnamon: The tiny fall detail that makes everything feel cozy. You don’t need much, just enough to bring warmth to the citrus dressing.
  • Pomegranate Arils: Add crunch, tartness, and that beautiful ruby color. They’re one of my favorite fall seasonal fruits because they make everything feel instantly more festive.
  • Red Grapes: Bring juicy sweetness and a crisp bite. They also hold up well in a layered salad, making them perfect for make-ahead recipes.
  • Cantaloupe: Adds soft sweetness and a beautiful orange layer.
  • Peaches: That late-summer-meets-early-fall energy perfect for this layered fruit salad. They’re sweet, fragrant, and such a good bridge between seasons.
  • Granny Smith Apples: A classic fall fruit, Granny Smith apples bring the perfect tart crunch. They balance the sweeter fruits and hold their shape beautifully.
  • Plums: Jammy sweetness, color, and a slightly tart bite that complements the other ingredients.
  • Blackberries: Deep color, juicy texture, and a sweet-tart finish. They’re delicate, so they make sure they are the top layer!

How to Make Fall Fruit Salad

Making this salad is almost too easy; grab your ingredients, your canister, and let’s get layering!

Make the Dressing

Add the pomegranate juice, orange juice, lime juice, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt to a jar. Whisk until combined. Taste and adjust if needed. If your fruit is extra tart, you can add a little maple syrup, but the juices are usually sweet enough. Carefully pour the dressing into the bottom of your glass canister. This lets the fruit marinate slightly as it chills.

Layer the Fruit

Add each fruit into the canister one by one, gently leveling with a spoon as you go. This helps create those beautiful, distinct layers that make the salad look so impressive. I always suggest starting with the sturdiest fruit and working your way up to the most delicate.

Chill until Serving

Store the salad in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. Enjoy within 24 hours for the freshest texture!

Flip to Serve

When you’re ready, remove the lid, place a large serving bowl over the top, and carefully flip the canister upside down. The dressing will pour through the layers and coat the fruit as it lands in the bowl. Give it a gentle toss if needed, then serve immediately. This is one of those recipes that looks like you spent way more time on it than you actually did, which is my favorite kind of party trick.

What to Serve with Fall Fruit Salad

It’s perfect whenever you want something fresh, colorful, and a little lighter on the table. Serve it with:

  • Brunch: This fruit salad is perfect stacked on pancakes, waffles, or as a complement to something savory like tofu scramble.
  • Tailgate or Potlucks: Going somewhere you need to impress (ideally with a meal you can make ahead of time)? This salad is the perfect option!
  • Holiday meals: It’s a fresh and juicy option on the dessert table next to the cookies and pumpkin squares!

Why You’ll Love This Layered Fall Fruit Salad

There are so many reasons to love this fruit salad, and one is that it’s the perfect way to celebrate fall seasonal produce! It’s colorful, make-ahead friendly, and an easy way to enjoy fruits you wouldn’t usually pair together.

It’s also a total showstopper. The glass canister makes the layers look beautiful before serving, and the flip is always a little dramatic in the best way. This salad works for fall parties, tailgates, brunches, holidays, or anytime you want a fresh dish that still feels seasonal and special.

Fall Fruit Salad FAQ

What fruits are in season in fall? Some of the most popular fruits that are in season right now include apples, pears, grapes, plums, pomegranates, figs, cranberries, and persimmons. Availability depends on where you live, but these are great options for fall recipes.

Can I make this fall fruit salad ahead of time? This recipe is totally designed to be made ahead of time! Assemble in the canister, then store in the fridge until you’re ready to serve, ideally within 24 hours. Flip into a bowl right before serving for the best texture.

How do I keep apples from browning? The lime juice in the dressing helps slow browning. You can also toss the apple cubes with a little extra lime or orange juice before layering if you’re worried about oxidation.

Can I use different fruit? Absolutely. Pears, figs, persimmons, cranberries, blueberries, clementines, or oranges all work well. Use whatever fruit is available.

Can I make this without the canister? Yes. The canister gives the salad its signature layered look, but you can also layer the fruit in a large serving bowl.

Can I use frozen fruit? Fresh fruit is best for this recipe because it holds its shape and texture. Frozen fruit releases more liquid as it thaws and may make the salad watery.
