Grain-Free Bagel Bites

You all loved my Keto Everything Bagel Bites so much and so many of you asked about a sweet variation so here ya have it! Indulge in these Gluten-Free Blueberry Bagel Bites, a perfect treat for any time of day. Made with just three essential ingredients—superfine blanched almond flour, unsweetened dairy-free yogurt, and 100% fruit blueberry jam, these bagel bites offer a keto, gluten-free, grain-free snack that doesn’t compromise on flavor or texture. Each bite is infused with sweet, tangy blueberry jam, creating a lovely contrast with the mild, nutty base of the almond flour. The dough is easy to prepare and bakes into golden, chewy bite sized bagels. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast, a portable snack, or a healthy dessert option, these Blueberry Bagel Bites are a fantastic choice, marrying health-conscious eating with indulgent taste. Ready in just 25 minutes, these bagel bites are a practical option for busy mornings or as a grab-and-go snack, proving that good nutrition and great flavor can go hand in hand.

The Only 3 Ingredients That You Need For These Bagel Bites

  • Super Fine Blanched Almond Flour: The base of these grain free bagel bites is almond flour as it provides the perfect consistency for the dough. It’s high in protein and low in carbohydrates, gluten free, and offers a mild, nutty flavor. It’s important to use store-bought, super fine, blanched almond flour for this recipe!
  • Plain, Unsweetened, Dairy-Free Yogurt: Acting as a binding agent, dairy-free yogurt keeps the almond flour together while adding moisture and a slight tanginess that complements the sweetness of the fruit jam. Opt for a thicker yogurt when making these. My favorites are Coco June, Culina, and Harmless Harvest! If your yogurt is thinner, you will need to add more flour.
  • 100% Fruit Blueberry Jam: You will want to use an all-fruit jam and preferably refined sugar free to keep it on the healthier side. I opted to use St Dalfour’s all-fruit blueberry jam as it has no added sugar and instead of being pureed or totally smooth, it has little chunks of fruit which are important for achieving the right texture of this bagel bite recipe.

How to Make These Quick & Simple Bagel Bites

Start by preheating your oven and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a mixing bowl, combine the almond flour with your choice of dairy-free yogurt, mixing until you achieve a firm, doughy consistency. If the mixture feels too sticky, gradually add more almond flour until it’s easy to handle.

Gently fold in the blueberry jam, creating a berry swirl throughout the dough. Roll the dough into small 1.5 tbsp sized balls, ensuring each one is evenly sized for consistent baking. When rolling, the dough should not be sticky or leave any residue on your hands. If it feels to wet, return the dough to the bowl and fold in additional almond flour 1 tbsp at a time until the right texture is achieved. Place them on your prepared sheet and bake until golden and firm. Remember, it’s super important to let them cool completely before indulging as it helps the bagel bites set and prevents them from crumbling. Enjoy right away or store in a paper bag on the counter for up to 5 days. If they get a little soft/moist, place them in the oven at 350 for about 5 minutes to reintroduce the crispy exterior and then enjoy!

Tips For Making Bagel Bites

  • Achieve the Right Dough Consistency: For the best blueberry bagel bites, the dough’s texture is crucial. Mix the almond flour and dairy-free yogurt until the dough is firm and manageable. If the mixture feels too sticky, gradually add more almond flour until it reaches a doughy consistency that is easy to shape. This step ensures that the bagel bites will hold together during and after baking.
  • Gently Incorporate the Jam: To distribute the blueberry jam evenly, fold it gently into the dough using a fork. Aim for a marble effect with beautiful swirls of jam throughout the dough, rather than fully integrating it. This method ensures that each bagel bite has pockets of sweet blueberry flavor, enhancing the overall taste and appearance of the bites.
  • Allow to Cool Completely Before Serving: Patience is key when baking these bagel bites. Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack after baking. This cooling process helps the bites to set properly, solidifying their structure and preventing them from falling apart when handled.

Can I use Regular Yogurt or Fat Free Yogurt?

Realistically you can use whatever yogurt you have on hand but I highly suggest keeping these bagels as healthy as possible since they are highly addictive! I opted for a dairy free, thick, unsweetened yogurt. However, this recipe will work well with Greek yogurt or regular yogurt if you’re not avoiding dairy. Greek yogurt is thicker and richer, which can give the bagel bites a more indulgent feel. Just keep in mind to adjust the flour ratio to achieve the desired dough consistency.

Could I Turn These Into Sweet Dessert Bagels?

While these blueberry bagel bites are still on the sweeter side, you could totally turn them into a dessert by incorporating a dash of vanilla extract. Roll the raw balls in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar before cooking or add a dollop of additional jam in the middle of the bagel bite for a stuffed bagel style. You can also cut them in half and add a bit of fresh fruit on top! What’s great about this bagel bites recipe is its versatility to explore your creative side!

Reasons to Love These Bagel Bites

There are so many reasons to love these bagel bites! They are fun to make, versatile in presentation, gluten-free, dairy-free, and grain-free, making them accessible to those with dietary preferences. If you’ve never made homemade bagel bites let this be your invitation to try them out ASAP and see what all the hype is about! They are addictive and super fun to share with others. Not to mention the fact that there are only 3 ingredients to this recipe, you can skip measuring out the baking powder, baking soda, olive oil and all those ingredients that other recipes have! My mini bagels are so delicious.

Want to Use Your Airfryer?

Sure thing! Want to whip up your gluten-free bagel bites in an air fryer? Go for it! Just space them evenly in the air fryer basket to ensure each one cooks perfectly crispy. They might cook quicker than in the oven, so keep an eye on them.

Keto Bagel Bites: FAQs

  • Can I use regular flour instead of almond flour? If you would like to substitute the almond flour for all-purpose flour, gluten free 1:1 flour, or oat flour, you can do that by adjusting the amount of flour to 1.5 cups. I have not tried this recipe with coconut flour.
  • Are these bagel bites freezer-friendly? Absolutely! Freeze them after baking and cool them completely. Reheat in the oven to restore their crispy texture.
  • How do I reheat these bagel bites? You may find that after 24-48 hours, your bagel bites become a bit moist or soft. Don’t worry! Simply pop them in the oven for 5 minutes at 350 to reheat. They will crisp right up!
  • Can I use dairy-based greek yogurt? Yes! Traditional dairy yogurt will work great for this recipe. Some readers have even shared they mixed in shredded cheese or parmesan.
  • What other seasonings can be used? If you’re not a fan of everything bagel seasoning, or just want to switch it up, you could try poppy seeds, cinnamon sugar, sesame seeds, or granola!
  • Can you make these in an air fryer? Yes! Air frying these bagel bites is a great idea, and they come out perfectly! Just reduce the bake time to 12-15 minutes.
  • What is the best type of cream cheese to use? These are delicious with a dairy free cream cheese! I have found Kite Hill and Spero have the best taste and texture for dairy free vegan cream cheese options. These everything bagel bites would be delicious with plain cream cheese, garden veggie cream cheese, or red pepper cream cheese.

  1. Can you use frozen blueberries instead of a jam? Also can these be made with coconut flour and Greek yogurt?

    1. Hey Missy – The recipe is designed with just three key ingredients that work together to create the final result. While variations can be fun, changing all three ingredients would likely lead to a completely different, and potentially unflavorable outcome, so for the best experience, I recommend sticking to the original trio. You could definitely swap coconut yogurt for greek yogurt without any issues.
