When I tell you that this high protein salad is beyond easy, I really mean it and you might not believe me until you try it! Coming together in under 10 minutes yet still loaded with protein, sweetness and all the best flavors; I bet it will have you highly addicted and anticipating warmer weather! My High Protein Sumo Citrus Avocado Salad recipe is one that leaves you feeling nourished, refreshed and ready to take on those dark January days. Let’s brighten up your days with this citrus avocado salad!
Whoever said you can’t enjoy salads in the winter had no idea that winter salads are a whole thing! Did you know that the beginning of the year (winter in the northern hemisphere) is when many citrus trees are in their peak season for harvest? That means that right now is the ideal time to be enjoying this delicious Sumo Citrus Avocado Salad! The Sumo Citrus, a seasonal gem, brings a unique sweetness, making it a refreshing choice during these colder months and when you pair it with creamy avocado, it offers a delightful contrast of flavors and textures.
Exploring different types of citrus can transform your salad. From the tangy burst of a grapefruit to the sweet, milder notes of a cara cara oranges, each variety adds its own character. The Sumo Citrus, known for its easy peeling and incredibly sweet flavor, is particularly special and the reason why I chose it for this salad. I love Sumo Citrus and use it frequently at this time of the year for a few reasons… It’s the easiest citrus to peel, I love the outrageously sweet flavor and they are consistently delicious and juicy!
This time of the year it’s exceptionally important to be including ingredients with vitamin C into your diet. With the lack of sunshine and the increase of flus going around it’s essential to ensure that you are taking care of your immune system. Citrus fruits are packed with vitamins and are also a good source of fiber and contain various antioxidants that contribute to overall health. Sumo Citrus has more than DOUBLE the vitamin C of your regular orange, and more that 160% of your RDV.
Don’t forget that aside from this salad being a quick fix to hunger, it is also extremely healthy and a wonderful option for Veganuary and beyond. This citrus avocado salad recipe is a powerhouse of nutrition. Avocados are rich in heart-healthy fats, while Sumo Citrus is loaded with vitamin C. Edamame provides plant-based protein and fiber, making this salad a well-rounded, nutritious choice. This avocado salad is also low in carbs, refined sugar free, and it aligns well with various dietary preferences.
Creating the perfect balance of flavors is key in this salad. The rich, creamy texture of avocado harmonizes beautifully with the bright, juicy Sumo Citrus. Edamame, a high-protein addition, brings a satisfying crunch and nutritional boost. I really love how fresh this salad tastes and how quickly it comes together. You just need to prepare your ingredients, whisk together your salad dressing and then toss it all in a bowl. This is a salad that you could easily make on the go or quickly as a side dish.
The best part about this citrus salad recipe is that it is easy to customize. Like all my recipes I try to keep the ingredients realistic and in season but if for some reason you cannot find one of these ingredients locally to you, that’s okay because there are many ways to customize this salad to suit what you have on hand. Feel free to add greens like spinach or arugula for extra nutrients and color. Nuts can be swapped out with seeds like pumpkin or sunflower for a different texture and flavor profile. Or even consider adding grains to this salad recipe. By adding whole grains like quinoa or farro you can turn this salad into a heartier dish, perfect for a fulfilling lunch or dinner.
This salad is a wonderful reminder that healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. With a Sumo Citrus Avocado Salad recipe like this, you can enjoy nutrient-rich, flavorful meals that are easy to prepare and a joy to eat!

I is there something you can suggest to replace the edamame? I can not eat soy.
Hi tanya! You could use chickpeas instead!
I made last night and it was delicious! Even my husband also loved it!
love that it’s husband approved! Thanks Lee
Are we supposed to cook the edamame or keep it raw?
If you are using frozen edamame you can just simply thaw!
