This Better Than Takeout Sticky Maple Miso Glazed Tofu recipe features crispy pan fried tofu tossed in a sweet and savory miso glaze sauce, served in a nourishing tofu bowl with rice and broccoli. It’s a high-protein, gluten free, and incredibly satisfying. The BEST Sticky Maple Miso Glazed Tofu!

My Sticky Maple Miso Glazed Tofu Bowl is all about that glossy, sticky, salty-sweet situation that makes you go back for another bite before you’ve even finished the first. The miso brings that deep umami, the maple gives it a subtle sweetness and that caramelized finish, and when it hits the heat, it turns into this rich glaze that coats every piece of tofu perfectly. Slightly crisp on the edges, saucy in the center… exactly what you want.

An Easy Protein Fiber Combo!

Served over rice with a side of broccoli, it keeps things simple but still hits. The broccoli soaks up any extra glaze (arguably the best part), and the rice balances everything out so every bite has a little bit of everything going on. It’s satisfying, super balanced, and actually keeps you full thanks to that protein + fiber combo… no post-dinner snack spiral.

It comes together fast, uses pantry staples, and tastes way more impressive than the effort required. This is a strong contender for your “I don’t feel like cooking, but I still want something good” rotation. Make it tonight, and you’ll get what I’m talking about!!

Sticky Maple Miso Glazed Tofu Bowls Ingredients

These tofu bowls are packed with ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen. I’ve suggested a few substitutions just in case you’re short on an ingredient or two! Make this recipe work for you.

For the Crispy Tofu

  • Super Firm Tofu: The foundation of any good crispy tofu starts with a super firm one! This variety of tofu holds its shape and crisps beautifully without needing to press out excess moisture.
  • Arrowroot Powder (or Cornstarch): Either of these ingredients will be ideal for helping to create that highly desired crispy exterior on your tofu.
  • Garlic Powder + Sea Salt: Adds a base layer of flavor so the tofu is seasoned even before the glaze.

For the Sticky Maple Miso Glaze

  • Coconut Aminos: Adds umami and depth, acting as the savory base of the sticky tofu sauce. Tamari or soy sauce would also work instead, but keep in mind, they’re higher in sodium, so you may want to use a little less.
  • Rice Vinegar: Balances the richness with acidity, keeping the glaze from feeling too heavy.
  • Miso Paste: The second umami bomb of this sticky sauce! Miso brings deep complexity and that signature miso glazed flavor.
  • Maple Syrup: Using maple instead of white sugar keeps the sauce refined sugar free! The maple creates the sticky, glossy texture and adds natural sweetness that is essential to the glaze.
  • Sriracha: Adds a gentle heat that balances the sweetness and enhances the overall flavor. Use as much or as little as you’d like; balance tastes different to everyone.
  • Garlic Powder + Ground Ginger: These bring warmth and depth. You’ll smell the ginger as the sauce heats up; it’s subtle but lowkey essential.
  • Arrowroot Slurry (Arrowroot + Water): This thickens the glaze into that perfect sticky consistency that clings to the tofu.

For the Bowls

  • Jasmine Rice: A soft, neutral base that soaks up all the extra glaze. You can also use brown rice for a heartier, fiber-rich option or omit rice altogether and serve this in lettuce wraps.
  • Broccoli: Adds freshness and texture while balancing the richness of the glaze.
  • Green Onions + Sesame Seeds: Finish the dish with freshness, crunch, and a nutty flavor.

How to Make These Sticky Maple Miso Glazed Tofu Bowls

This recipe comes together easily, quickly and will have you absolutely obsessed with every bite! The steps are simple, and the end result is restaurant worthy! Let’s get sizzling.

Prepare the Tofu

Cube the tofu and add it to a bowl; sprinkle with arrowroot powder, garlic powder, and salt. Toss until each piece is lightly coated. The tofu should look dry and slightly powdery. This is what you want and what will make the tofu super crispy! This is also a good time to start cooking your rice.

Crisp the Tofu

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a light layer of oil. Place the tofu in a single layer. Let it cook undisturbed for a few minutes, then flip. You’re looking for golden edges and a firm, crisp exterior. This takes about 8–10 minutes total. You’ll know it’s ready when the edges turn golden and slightly firm to the touch.

Make the Sticky Miso Glaze

While the tofu cooks, whisk together all the glaze ingredients. Taste and adjust; you can add more maple for sweetness or more sriracha for heat.

Sauce and Finish

Reduce the heat to low and pour the glaze into the pan. Stir gently to coat the tofu. Within a minute or two, the sauce will thicken and turn glossy. That is when the sticky tofu comes to life! Sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds and give it one final toss. Serve the tofu over rice with steamed broccoli. Spoon any extra glaze over everything; it’s too good to waste!

How to Store Miso Glazed Tofu

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. When reheating, warm gently in a pan or microwave. If needed, add a splash of water to loosen the sauce and bring back that glossy texture.

Tips for Making Crispy Tofu

Getting perfectly crispy tofu is all about technique.

  • Make sure your pan is hot before adding the tofu. This helps create that initial sear.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan. Give each piece space so it can crisp instead of steam.
  • Let the tofu sit before flipping. If you try to move it too early, it won’t develop that golden crust. Sometimes you need to let it sit a little longer than you think!

Equipment

  • stove

Ingredients

Crispy Tofu Ingredients
  • 16 oz high protein super firm tofu, cut into 1" cubes
  • 1 tbsp arrowroot powder, or tapioca flour or cornstarch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp sea salt
Sticky Maple Miso Glaze Ingredients
  • 4 tbsp coconut aminos
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp miso paste
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp sriracha
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp arrowroot powder, or tapioca flour or cornstarch
Bowl Ingredients
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 cup jasmine rice, cooked
  • 1 head broccoli, steamed

Method

  1. Add the tofu to a bowl and sprinkle with arrowroot powder, garlic powder and sea salt. Toss to evenly coat.
  2. Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add a light spray of cooking oil, or up to 1 tbsp of oil for even crispier tofu. Arrange the tofu in an even layer and cook for about 8-10 minutes, flipping every few minutes until all edges are golden and crisp.
  3. While tofu is cooking, add all ingredients for the sauce to a jar and shake or whisk with a fork to combine. Season to taste (you can add more maple syrup for extra sweetness, more sriracha for extra spice, or a pinch of sea salt for extra savoriness).
  4. Reduce heat to low and pour in the sauce, stirring and giving it a swirl to evenly coat the tofu and let thicken. Immediately sprinkle with green onion and sesame seeds and toss to combine.
  5. Serve hot over rice with a side of broccoli.
